Call for Expressions of Interest in ISC Global Science-Policy Work
As the International Science Council (ISC) and the Global Young Academy (GYA) continue to broaden their influence and
impact within the multilateral system, the ISC Secretariat is in the process of forming a roster of experts over the next few weeks. These experts will cover 20 key areas prominently featured on the United Nations (UN) agenda, enabling the ISC to offer timely insights drawing from a diverse range of expertise across regions.
Roles of the Expert Roster:
- Providing ad-hoc science advice to the UN Secretariat and UN Member States.
- Preparing high-level briefs for the UN Secretariat and UN Member States.
- Developing statements on behalf of the international scientific community.
- Offering recommendations for speakers in high-level debates and panels for policy-making audiences.
Call to Experts: The ISC invites experts to join this initiative, especially if their expertise aligns with the
20 key areas identified by the UN. Participate in shaping impactful science contributions to the global agenda.
Contributing to Global Science Impact: By joining the ISC's expert roster, individuals can actively contribute to shaping science advice, briefs, statements, and speaker recommendations for critical policy discussions. This initiative emphasizes the importance of diverse expertise in addressing the UN's agenda.
Deadline: The deadline to express your interest is 29 February!

Join the ModelShare Program: A Call to the Scientific Community
We are thrilled to announce the launch of the ModelShare Program—an initiative designed to address the challenges in model sharing, led by the Open Modeling Foundation’s Certification Working Group, and made possible by the support of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Kairoi coordinates the program.
Through a series of interactive, free workshops running from mid-February to late May 2024, this program aims to unite the scientific community and shape guidelines for effective model-sharing practices throughout the modeling lifecycle.
Key Information:
- Workshop topics include Guidance and Standards, Development Environments and Platforms, Research Computing, Preservation and Publication, Publication and Discoverability, Sustainability, and Assessment.
- The workshops facilitate dialogue among data scientists, academic publishers, computational modelers, and the broader scientific community.
- Events will feature presentations and panel discussions by leading experts, ensuring thought-provoking discussions.
- Community-driven discussions will explore questions such as domain-specific vs. domain-agnostic modeling standards, the application of FAIR and CARE principles to model-sharing, and the support publishers need for preserving, sharing, and citing open models.
- The ModelShare team is committed to creating inclusive and welcoming events, adhering to the Open Modeling Foundation’s Code of Conduct.

PIDfest Conference: Call for Proposals
Overview: Get ready for PIDfest 2024, a three-day international summit in Prague, Czech Republic, from 11-13 June. This event is dedicated to exploring how Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) can elevate global research infrastructure. The aim is to gather PID stakeholders worldwide for discussions and solutions that address real-world infrastructure challenges, propelling research and innovation forward.
Invitation for Session Proposals: Proposals for concurrent sessions (30 or 60 minutes) organized by community members. These sessions, featuring a mix of presentations and panel discussions, will cover a broad spectrum of PID topics, including:
- PIDs 101/PID basics
- Case studies/lessons learned (technical and social)
- PID strategies and policies
- National PID strategies
- Novel uses and emerging PIDs
- Persistence and sustainability of PIDs
- Technical applications of PIDs
- PID value propositions
- PIDs at scale (globally in research workflows and infrastructure)
- PID-enabled connections
- Beyond PIDs - metadata and schema
Submission Details:
- Proposals must be submitted by 23 February, using the form provided here (one form per proposed session).
- All proposals will be anonymized and reviewed by the PIDfest Program Committee.
- Notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent by 15 March 2024.
Inclusivity Encouraged: Diverse perspectives in proposals, considering factors such as profession, location (Global South), career stage, gender, and more are strongly encouraged. Demographically diverse sessions are being prioritized.

CLARIN Annual Conference 2024: Call for Extended Abstracts
CLARIN ERIC invites extended abstract submissions for the
CLARIN Annual Conference 2024. This conference is a platform for scholars, researchers, students, and citizen scientists across disciplines to engage with digital language resources provided by CLARIN. The new focus this year will be Education and Training with CLARIN tools. The event will be in a hybrid format - both physical and virtual - and hosted in Barcelona, Spain. It's organized in collaboration with CLARIAH-ES and the Basque Center for Language Technology.

Are you a budding visual storyteller? If so, we have exciting news for you! The Pudding is now accepting applications for its esteemed summer fellowship, designed exclusively to nurture emerging talent in the field of visual storytelling. This unique opportunity welcomes applications from current college or graduate-level students and recent graduates (within the last year). Spanning ten weeks from 18 June 2024 to 1 September 2024, this fellowship offers participants a platform to bring their project ideas to fruition. Enter with an idea and walk away with a near-publishable or completed project!
The Pudding Fellowship Experience
As a fellow at The Pudding, you will benefit from one-on-one mentorship while working on your project. This part-time program (20 hours/week) is remote-friendly and open to international applicants as well. Note that there will be dedicated team-wide and cohort-wide events during EST hours; applicants should be available for these sessions. The 2024 Cohort will consist of up to three individuals who share a passion for visual storytelling.
Applications are being evaluated continuously since 25 January 2024. There's no official cut-off deadline for applications - meaning it's never too late to apply! Participants can look forward to receiving a stipend of $7,200 for their contribution during the fellowship period.

Meet Cameron Breland: The New Communications Specialist for WDS-IPO
We're thrilled to welcome
Cameron Breland as the new Communications Specialist for the World Data System's International Program Office (WDS-IPO). Cameron comes with rich experience in marketing from varied sectors including collegiate athletics, higher education, and public health.
His passion for information seeking was enhanced while pursuing his master's degree when his unique viewpoint on COVID-19 misinformation and the possible health effects of social media misinformation led him to develop a thesis project based on the public health field. His subsequent work with community shareholders in public health enhanced his communication skills within international research communities. With his strong background in data-driven communications and critical analysis, Cameron is well poised to support WDS's mission of promoting unrestricted access to crucial research data globally. Meredith Goins, Executive Director at WDS-IPO, “is thrilled to have a strong communicator with research experience join our team."
