Event Details

This Forum is held by the WDS-IPO and WDS-SC and includes a Scientific Session and a Plenary Session. The Scientific Session allows WDS Members to report on their activities and engage with other Members. The Plenary Session is a membership consultation dedicated time, where Membership issues can be discussed. The WDS-IPO invites and encourages WDS Members to submit any questions, concerns, or complaints ahead of the Plenary Session so these can be appropriately addressed.

Dr. David Castle

Professor at University of Victoria

David Castle is a Professor in the School of Public Administration and the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria.

Dr. Castle is a Researcher in Residence at the Office of the Chief Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada, contributing expertise in science, technology and innovation policy.

Dr. Castle is the Chair of the Science Advisory Committee of the Council of Canadian Academies. He is a Director for Canada’s national research and education network provider, Canarie, and a member of the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Expert Advisory Group for a pan-Canadian Health Data Strategy.

Since 2019 he has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the ISC’s World Data System (WDS) and has recently joined the Canadian National Committee for the Committee on Data (CODATA) of the International Science Council (ISC). As a member of the OECD Global Science Forum Expert Group he contributed to the 2020 report, Building Digital Workforce Capacity and Skills for Data Intensive Science.

Reyna is the Director for the World Data System-International Technology Office hosted at Ocean Networks Canada. She has served Ocean Networks Canada in its Digital Infrastructure department since 2009 and concurrently leads the Data Stewardship team which provides meta and data management, geospatial services, and expedition support. In her previous role as scientific programmer, Reyna generated data products and visuals for the NEPTUNE Canada network. In both roles, she has been a keen contributor in the design of Oceans 3.0 tools and interoperability with other ocean data providers. Since 2018, she has served on the Board of the CoreTrustSeal, the organization that defines the certification criteria for research data repositories to belong to the WDS. She received her Bachelor of Mathematics in the Applied Mathematics Co-operative Program from the University of Waterloo, and her Master of Science in Ocean Physics under Dr. Eric Kunze at the University of Victoria. Prior work experience spans companies specializing in oceanographic monitoring systems, aerospace, and information technology.
